Jnana here means listening to reading from shastras, mediating over them, studing them, and vijnana means realizing the atman in direct experience.Jnana is understanding through reason, and vijnana is that knowledge which sinks through reason into experience.Jnana is knowledge obtained from shastras, where as vijnana is knowledge whish is part of one's experience.Non-violence will have become direct experience for us in this sense when our whole life comes tp be permeated wit the spirit of compassion, when non-violence manifests itself in us in its true essence. That boy who comes to fell compassion as his own experience will to that extent have purifies himself ,or attained knowledge of the self.

He whose atman is filled to perfect contentment with such Jnana and vijana, who dwells firmly like kuta-he is a kutastha that is who endures blows as the anvil does without ever breaking into pieces, remains unshaken in the midst of even extreme suffering-who has subdued his senses completely, such a one may be described as a yogi who has attained freedom. He has become united with God,has become inwardly purifies. To such a Yogi, clay, stone and gold, all are equal. All three come from earth.Earth which has hardened is stone.Gold silver diamonds, sapphire, all these are transformations of earth. But they are all without any worth-everyone of them is but dust.If we shed greed,we would look upon all these articles with the same eye.

The self-controlled man

"Renouncing with the mind all actions, the dweller in the body, who is master of himself, rests happily in his city of nine gates, neither doing nor getting anything done."

The self-controlled man, that is ,the man established in the atman, mentally renounces all karma and lives to peace. To renounce all karma mentally means to make the mind indifferent to them,to withdraw it into an attitude of detachment towards work and feel that we are not doing what we are engaged in, that it is God who impels us to do it.Surely we do not feel,as we breathe, that we are breathing. We have mentally renounced that karma. It becomes necessary to breathe with a conscious effort of mind only when natural breathing is obstructed. At all other times,it goes on mechanically. The atman dwells, ever at rest,in this body with nine doors, doing nothing and causing nothing to be done.Though it may be working or acting to make others work,it will not be doing so it it has mentally renounced karma

Different types of memory

We have two types of memory, one is temporary, and the other is more permanent. We use both all the time but usually in different ways. For instance, manytimes a day we have to remember certain things such as when to get u when to eat,w hat to buy ,where to work, and when to go to bed.Such memories may last only a few minutes. They are more or less temporary, and once we have attended to the matter,we are only too glad to forget them.

Permanent memories, such as our name, age, sex, home address, and nationality, remain with us all the time. Most of these memories are formed in childhood or perhaps after some important event. They are more permanent, probably because of actual changes within the electrical circuits of the brain itself. Thus the last thing an elderly person remembers may be some childhood event that happened seventy or eighty years before. The earlier these memories are formed, the more permanent they seem to be.

The ability to remember is probably our most important asset.Without it, we are hopelessly lost and confused. This is what happens when a person has a stroke or some other injury to the brain.

Just now you are reading this blog. But you can understand what is printed here only because you have already stored in your mind the meanings of letters, words, phrases, and whole sentences. You read rapidly, and as you do so, the memories flash through your mind as vivid pictures take shape within your imagination. This is why we all love to read a thrilling story.

But the thought processes do not stop here. These mental pictures stimulate other memories, linking one thought with another until we eventually have a complete picture of some important topic, and from this we make all out important decisions in life.We analyze the information, weigh it, and carefully evaluate it, then decide how and where to use it all these reactions are taking place right now as you read, think and study. And thus your whole life is shaped by memories of the past and by your ability to reason and think.

The most purifying

"There is nothing in this world so purifying as knowledge. He who is performed by yoga finds it in himself in fullness of time."

We see nothing in this world as holy as this knowledge(The purest yajna, therefore,is the yajna of knowledge). He who has become fit for moksha through the practice of yoga comes to this knowledge is realization of time by his own effort. That knowledge is realization of the self.As soon as this realization is attained, all the burden of this body and of karma well melt away.

The Mechanism of thinking

There are many stronger animals in the world, but the only man has the ability to reason things out for himself, and to set down his thoughts on paper for others to understand. The power of thought is a complex phenomenon,f ar beyond our capacity to fully understand.even with the most delicate of modern equipment,w e still have much to learn about what is actually going on in the brain.

So far as we can determine, thought is an electrical process that depends on many different parts of the brain. To make this possible all the carious part must work smoothly and harmoniously at the memories from scenes or ideas we have previously visualized and experiences. For instance,w e are aware of what we see,h ear,and feel right now, only because of our previous memories which have been stored within the brain ready for instant recall the moment we need them.

Memory is of the greatest importance, for without it we could never learn, nor could we understand what we see and hear. Our ability to store memories and use them at the right time enables us not only to understand, but also to transmit out ideas to other people. Thus we depend upon memory to guide us in all that we do.But we must weigh and consider each situation, and decide what is best for us at any particular time.Prolonged experience brings maturity of thought, largely because our memories of the past help to guide us in our present decisions.A young child is at a great disadvantage, for his memories are not fully developed. For his own protection,he must be guided by those who are older and whose judgment is more reliable.

How our brain works(human conrol system)

Every highly complex machine must have a control center-some place where all important decisions are made and where the activities are co-ordinated.For instance,a large jet plane has powerful engines to carry it through the air,and luxurious space for the comfort of the passengers. The plane is also well-equipped with food compartments,so that delicious meals can be served by charming hostesses who are constantly watching over the welfare of all on boars, but while the plane is in flight, there is one spot where all vital decisions are made. You will find it up front where the captain, his copilot, and the navigation officer are hard at work.During a long flight the passengers may relax and rest, but these men are always on duty, day and night,as long as the plane is in the air.

So it is with the human body.We have many important organs, such as the heart, lungs, kidneys, and liver, all hard at work-not to mention those fabulous little endocrine glands, such sa the thyroid, pituitary, adrenals, and many more. All of these are necessary in keeping us alert and healthy.Other parts of our bodies, such as our eyes and ears, are constantly at work keeping us informed of what is going on.Our digestive organs utilize the food and provide us with energy to keep going at out best. Our hands are forever active, doing what we want done, and our legs and feet are busy carrying us wherever we want to go.

Over all this remarkable machine known as the human body we have a most efficient nervous system, consisting of the brain, the spinal cord, and also the autonomic nervous system. This great nerve center is always on the job, ever alert to protect us from danger to guide us in all we do.

Our most important decisions are made in the brain, some of them quite automatically, others only after careful consideration. Here are the centers of memory, reason, intelligence, and understand. What is best ans what is not.Once we lose this ability to think and reason,we are little more than animals.Intelligence and understanding are the chief attributes that set man above the rest os the animal kingdom.

Efficacy of mantras

Mantras are the words which are used to awaken the dormant psychic powers in a human being. They are in fact the key to unravel the treasure lying with in us.Our ancient sages had after long research found out that there was a link between the words uttered from the mouth and the feelings of mind and heart.Words,if uttered with feelings, produce a particular vibration in mind and it is this vibration that helps in awakening the hidden powers of the soul. All one yogi has to do is to draw upwards the energy lying dormant and take it to head. The science of mantras is profound. Its practice is indispensable and it leads to illumination.

Sushumna Nadi, the subtle tube passing through the spinal cord, has six centres of energy.one of the centers,Muladhara, is situated at anus;swadhistana, another one,is at the root of generative organs, manipura is corresponding to navel, anahata to heart,Vishuddhi to throat and ajna between eye brows.sahasrara is at the head.It is here that the energy reaches the zenith state. The energy has got to be awakened from anus, passed through the six chakras, and united to the divinity.

Our sages had discovered certain words, each representing a name of God or connected with his prayer, like Om which, when uttered, enabled a person to awaken the sleeping powers corresponding to those centres,as each center had a frequency in which it pulsates. The frequency of the center and nadis that at each canter is represented by letters like Lam,Vam,Ram,Yam,Ham,Om,etc.

They found that the name of God ultimately leads to realization and liberation from the cycle of birth and death.Constand repetition of it fills the mind with pure thoughts. The name imparts divine grace and helps the devotee in many ways.

Repetition of Lord'd name is japa removes obstacles on one's ways and is handy whenever a person is in trouble.Japa can be done with the help of mala which has 108 beads. It is advisable to receive manta from a guru. One can do as many mals of japa as one can.

Japa of Lord's name is one's real wealth. One can have peace of mind only in Him.Yo Val Bhuma Tat sukham. Japa purifies the heart.Set apart some fixed hours for it.Japa is the Rod in the hands of a blind aspirant to plod on the rod to realization.Japa is the philosopher's stone or divine elixir that makes him God-like.

Below are given some of the mantras for japa:Om Namo Nararayanaya(in the praise of lord Vishnu),Om Namah Shivaya(adoring Lord Shiva),

The highest yajna

The person who performs the yajna of knowledge makes a greater sacrifice than another who performs the yajna of money, for the yajna of knowledge covers everything, money and all other things.
Knowledge covers everythg which exists in the world, with out reference to the distinction betwen living and non-living.If we understand the terms dravya and janana in a wide sense,a yajna of knowledge includes yajna of every kind of dravya.Anyone who imparts the highest knowledge to us,convinces us to the very depth of our being that the body is not the atman, performs a very great yajna indeed.

Essential elements for healthy body

When a man plans to build a house, he first secures the best materials he can afford. He tries to order just the right amount of each so there will be no wast. Then he begins to build. It is interesting to watch experienced men constructing such a house.

The same is true of this most wonderful of all houses-the human body.We each are builders, daily selecting materials for the building process going on within ourselves. This construction job begins at birth and continues for the rest of our lives. For a strong house or a strong body, we must have the right materials.
Nothing inferior must be allowed to go into it.Only the best will do.This is even more true when one is recovering from some illness or injury.

What are these body-building materials?Doctors refer as proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and water. These are the materials we must have, in sufficient quantity and at the right time, if we hope to stay strong and healthy.Where do we find them? In our foods, of course.Only from our foods can we derive the materials for building bones, muscles, nerves, and skin, all of which are essential for the smooth working of every organ in the body.hence the need for learning how to choose the right diet.

The most important of body-building materials is protein, the great cell-building food, so essential for maintaining life in the entire system. Our food must also provide us with calories for energy, otherwise we would soon feel weak and worn-out.Most of our calories come from carbohydrate(or starches) and fats.

Other very important chemicals, such as vitamins and minerals, are also needed in sufficient quantities to regulates all the activities of this highly complex machine, the human body.Vitamins and minerals come almost entirely from plants an important part of our diet.

To be sure of sufficient minerals and vitamins, we must select our food from a fairly wide variety.A good diet is not so much a question of money as of knowing how to choose and prepare foods properly. We cannot live very long on an unbalanced diet, no matter how much we spend for food.If we try to get along on a poor diet, we will soon find ourselves in need of medical care.
