Ficus carica, Fig, Anjeera, Anjeer.
Fruit latex of fig is used in many Ayurvedic treatments. It is nutritive, diuretic, expectorant, laxative figs are a source of calcium, iron, and copper. Zinc is also moderately present. Vitamin A and C are present in all forms of fig fruit while vitamin A is lost by 30% in dry ones. Also, it is a source of Vitamin B complex and Vitamin D.
Ayurvedic health benefits and uses of Fig
Delayed periods
Take the Fig roots and make a decoction from it and filter it and drink for one month to set the cycle normal.
Urinary stones and dysuria
Make a decoction from Fig, Take one or two ounces twice every day to set right urinary disorders and to melt small stones.
Burn ulcers
Take bark of Fig, neem,mango and peepal barks and boil it in water. This preparation is useful to wash and soothe ulcers caused by burns.
Improve immunity and resistance
Eat one dry Fig fruit every day to build body resistance and immunity.
Anaemia
Fig is a rich source of iron, and it is good to include it in your diet in anemia.
Hyperacidity
The burnt ash of the Fig fruit is highly basic in nature and can be consumed one teaspoon before meals to counter hyperacidity.
Worm infestation
The enzyme ficin present in the fig latex is responsible for its anthelmintic activity and can be given with great benefit in worm infestations especially Ascaris and tricharus type.
Leucoderma
Fig is used in white spots on the skin as it contains a chemical "furocoumarin" which is responsible for this action. A person suffering from this disease is advised to take fig in any form for 2/3 months.
Amoebiasis
Sherbat or Ark anjir available in the market is used to cure amoebiasis.
