Other names of Gingelly

Sesamum indicum,Sesame, Tilah, Til, Tila, Ellu, Eellu-cceti, Nuvulu.

Roots, leaves, seeds, oil of Gingelly are used in many Ayurvedic treatments.

Roots and leaves of Gingelly are emollient.

Seeds of Gingelly are astringent, laxative, thermogenic, aphrodisiac, galactagogue, digestive, hair restorer, tonic.

Oli of Gingelly is astringent, anthelmintic, constipating, thermogenic.

Joint pains

To get relief from joint pains, add one teaspoon of black gingelly seeds in a glass of water and leave it overnight.

Alternatively, One teaspoon of gingelly seeds with a half teaspoon of dry ginger powder should be taken with a glass of hot milk in every morning.

To induce puberty

In underdeveloped adolescent girls, it is useful to give a decoction of gingelly seeds every day.

Or

Gingelly seeds and jaggery are rolled into small " laddoos" and are taken one thrice a day to stimulate overall physical development and for increasing lactation in breastfeeding women.

Dysmenorrhoea

Make laddoos by gingerly and jaggery. These laddoos are useful to promote a free flow of menstrual blood and ease pain and discomfort accompanying menstrual flow.

Bed wetting

Half teaspoon of Til with a quarter teaspoon of ajowain should be given to the child at night along with mineral water. Even gingelly-jaggery laddoos can be given according to the age of the child.

High blood pressure

Til oil can be substitute other cooking media such as ghee, groundnut oil, coconut oil , mustard oil or even refined oil as gingelly oil retains all its natural benefits besides having the least amount of saturated fat.

Piles

Especially in bleeding, using a poultice of the seeds pasted with butter relieves pain and bleeding to a large extent.

Gout

Steam boiling sesame seeds and pasting with milk makes an effective application on gouty joints.

Diarrhoea

Black sesame seeds are pasted with a dash of sugar and eaten along with goat milk.

colicky pain

Rolling a ball made of sesame seed pasted over the abdomen soothes the shooting pain.

cracked heels/ soles

Applying gingelly oil on the affected area and fomenting the feet with hot water at night is highly beneficial.

Jet black hair

Black sesame seeds, amla, and bhringraj powdered together and applied maintain the rich black texture of hair besides completely revitalizing it.

Strong teeth

Chewing a handful of sesame seeds and washing it down with cool water regularly will ensure a set of healthy teeth. Gargling with sesame oil every day is just as effective.
