Other names of cumin

Cuminum cymium, Jirka, Jeera, Jira, Jirakam, Jilakarra, Jirige.

Fruits of Cumin are very much useful to get relief from many diseases. It is cooling, anaphrodisiac, astringent, digestive, carminative, anthelmintic, anti-inflammatory, diuretic, galactagogue, and uterine and nervine tonic.

Ayurvedic health benefits and uses of Cumin

Loss of Appetite and Flatulence

Take cumin powder and jaggery mix it well and make small balls and have it thrice a day. Or you may make a decoction of the seeds drink both will give the same result.

To increase breast milk secretion

Take some white cumin seeds and fried it in ghee with sugar for some days after delivery in doses of one teaspoon thrice every day with milk.

White discharge

Take some cumin seeds and fry it. Have one teaspoon of it with honey thrice daily.

Morning sickness

For pregnant women, mix a teaspoon of cumin seed powder in some lime juice to drive nausea away.

Jaundice

Leave a mixture of white cumin seeds in a vessel filled with water overnight sweeten this infusion with palm candy in the morning and drink it to increase urine output and to reduce fever.

Cold and fevers

Water boiled in cumin and ginger is used as a beverage to clear the infection.

Boils

a fine powder of cumin, mixed in coconut milk is applied over boils. especially in summer to effect a quick care.

Delayed periods

A decoction of cumin and gingelly seeds, sweetened with palm candy, helps set off menstruation and promotes blood flow.

Urinary calculi

Take a teaspoon of cumin powder with sugar twice a day.

Cosmetic

Wash the face with cumin-boiled water and then apply a paste of black and white cumin seeds in milk cream as a pack to clear and promote complexion.
