Dyspepsia is called as Agnimandya in Ayurveda.The aggravation of three Doshas, Vata, Pitta and Kapha leads to this disease.Excess of Vaata leads to pain in the stomach, Kapha that of pitta causes a burning sensation Kaphais vitiated there are nausea and vomiting. It may be accomplished with pain in the region of the stomach, flatulence, eructations a foul taste in the mouth, heart-burn and a general feeling of discomfort.There is also a loss of appetite in some cases of dyspepsia.It may be the offshoot of many other diseases.
The quantity of food varies from individual to individual.A cardinal rule to follow in the matter of food is to avoid excess.Sleep and food are really matters of habot-they can be increased or decreased with in certain limits with out impairing the health.As in constipation, it is easier to prevent dyspepsia than to cure it, if one follows the simple rules enunciated by Ayurveda.
Fresh and hot food should be taken in pleasant surroundings.It should be taken only when the previous meal has been properly digested and one feels really hungry.
You should never eat in a hurry or when one is worried or angry.Emotions like anger and worry, the tensions of modern life, if allowed to have a free play will inevitably lead to dyspepsia.
You should avoid eating if there is a heaviness present.The quantity of food taken should be enough to assuage one's hunger with out producing a sense of fullness.
A remedy for chronic indigestion is you chew a piece of ginger(1 gm) with powder of rock salt before meals.
The major remedy in Ayurveda for dyspesia is of course the Hingvashtaka churna.
The remedy acts best when taken with butter or milk after food. Or, it may be taken with the first morsel of food.It may also be mixed with an equal quantity of ghee and taken thrice daily with warm water.
Any one of the following of your choice may give relief to this-
ASjrnari Rasa 3/4 gm together with Shatapatryyadi churna-2 gm given with warm water, in the morning and evening.
Draksharishta(20 ml) may be give twice daily after meals with water.
Haritaki Churna (3 gms) raisins (3 gms) and sugar ( gms) may be administered the last thing at night with water.
Agnimukha Lavana and Narayana Chrna(one gm each) may be given thrice daily with warm water;
Lashunadi Vati, Smudradi Churna and Sarijikasativa (one gm each) may be given daily two times after two meals with warm water.
