What is Bacterial Vaginosis?
It is a mild infection of the vagina caused by bacteria. There are a lot of good and bad bacteria in the vagina. The good helps control the bad. Bacterial vaginosis is when the balance becomes upset. There are not enough good bacteria and too many dangerous bacteria.
Bacterial Vaginosis is usually a mild infection that may go away within a few days. It can, however, lead to more serious problems.
Bacterial Vaginosis is more prevalent in women who are sexually active.
Douching – using water or a medicated solution to clean the vagina
Having a bath with pure liquids
Having a new sex partner
Having multiple sex partners
Perfumed bubble baths and some scented soaps
Smoking
Using an IUD (intrauterine device), such as a contraceptive device made from plastic and copper that fits inside the uterus
Using vaginal deodorants
Washing underwear with strong detergents
Symptoms:
Massive whitish or gray discharge with a fishy odor from the vagina
Vaginal itching and inflammation
Redness in vagina
Burning sensation during urination
Remedies:
Citrus Fruit
Drink Juices or eat citrus fruit, such as lemons, grapefruits or oranges. This fruit are abundant in Vitamin C and strengthen your immune system and keep you away from infections.
Echinacea
You can take Echinacea to clear up your infection.
Apple Cider Vinegar
An excellent home remedy for bacterial vaginosis is apple cider vinegar. Due to its acidic nature, apple cider vinegar helps to increase vaginal acidity. This makes it difficult for bad bacteria to survive and creates a better environment for good bacteria to thrive.
Add two cups of apple cider vinegar to your bath. Sit for 20 minutes, and gently pat dry the area, do this once daily, until conditions improve.
Yogurt
Yogurt is one of the most common remedies for bacterial vaginosis. Yogurt contains beneficial bacteria known as lactobacillus that helps to fight off bad bacteria and help maintain healthy vaginal Ph balance.
Dip a cotton pad in yogurt and apply to the affected area. Leave it on for half an hour and wash it off. Repeat three times daily until the symptoms are gone.
Remember to use nonflavored sugar-free organic plain yogurt!
Garlic
Garlic is a natural antibiotic that can help treat bacterial vaginosis. Garlic is also filled with antifungal properties.
Crush 3-4 garlic cloves and smear them on the affected area. Leave it on for 20 minutes and then rinse the area with lukewarm water.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil has natural antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties that can kill the germs that cause bacterial vaginosis and prevent it from recurring.
Acidophilus
Acidophilus, also known as Lactobacillus acidophilus, is one of the most common and well-known species of good bacteria. Commonly referred to as probiotics, acidophilus, and other probiotic bacteria are naturally present throughout the body and are responsible for maintaining the function of many of your bodily processes. This bacteria helps treat BV by eradicating high levels of bad bacteria and repopulating the colonies of good bacteria.
