Indigestion is a symptom of many diseases.It may be caused due to some disturbance in the intestine or stomach. Some times it may be caused due to some diseases in other parts of the body.There may be indigestion due to over eating or eating food in a wrong manner.
Symptoms of indigestion:
A feeling of heaviness in the stomach.Stomach pain,vomiting,diarrhoea,nausea,acid eructation,and burning sensation in the chest.loss of appetite,excessive wind or gas,bad taste in the mouth,coated tongue, foul breath.Pain in the upper abdomen these are the major symptoms of indigestion.
Causes of indigestion:
According to Ayurveda it is caused by the aggravation of doshas,vata,pita,kapha. When vata is vitiated there is more pain,when pita is vitiated there is more of burning sensation,and when kapha is vitiated there is more of nausea and vomiting.The main causes of indigestion are improper eating,over eating,eating wrong food,eating before previous meal digesting.eating fast or with out chewing.eating in unpleasant surroundings.Psychological factors like anger,anxiety and worry may leads to indigestion.
Ayurveda treatment for indigestion:
The patient suffering from chronic digestion can be treated by some home remedies. Taking a piece of raw ginger with a pinch of raw salt five minutes before taking food will improve appetite.
For chronic and acute indigestion Hingvasthtka churna is consumed. An important ingredient of this recipe is hing. Besides shunthi,pippali,maricha,ajmoda,jiraka,and krishna jiraka are used in this medicine.
When indigestion is associated with pain,then Mahashankha-vati is given in a dose of two tablets three to four times a day,followed by a cup of warm water each time.
Mudra remedy for indigestion
Mudras are very effective remedies for indigestion.Here is a few mudras that are useful for indigestion
Indigestion: Prithvi-shaamak or Surya mudra , Linga mudra , Pitta-kaarak or Kapha-naashak, Jal –vardhak or Varun mudra
